It’s Home

Twin Lakes Community has been home to thousands of residents over our 40-year history. It attracts folks from just down the road and those from across the country. The local area maintains a unique and pleasant balance of small-town southern charm with benefits afforded by neighboring Triad and Triangle metropolitan areas. With two interstate highways located less than a mile from our door, it’s a quick drive to everything these areas offer, including world-renowned medical facilities like Duke University, UNC, and Wake Forest Medical Centers. Our ideal location makes the beautiful North Carolina beaches and mountains viable options for an enjoyable day trip. But the people who live at Twin Lakes find this special place has much to offer in its own backyard and that, along with endless other opportunities and advantages, make it a great place to call home.

While Twin Lakes has a Burlington mailing address, most of the property is located in Elon, a town recently ranked as the 2nd safest city in NC. Our close proximity to and strong affiliation with nationally acclaimed Elon University provides a variety of entertaining, intellectual, and cultural events. Residents of Twin Lakes frequently attend sporting events, musical performances, theatre productions, and speaking engagements by distinguished guests. Many of our residents participate in Life@Elon, a lifelong learning program offering weekly educational forums on a variety of topics. Residents also take advantage of our own life-enrichment programming, which often features retired academics and others who live at Twin Lakes.

For the outdoor enthusiast, the area offers hiking and biking trails, parks, and three lakes providing opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, fishing, sailing, skiing, and other water sports. Residents find the Paramount Theatre in downtown Burlington and Alamance Arts, just minutes down the road in nearby Graham, to be spectacular life-enriching programs.

Residents Denise and Louise Pagano moved from Chapel Hill, NC four years ago. When asked what attracted them to Twin Lakes, they had this to say:

“It is by far the prettiest CCRC of all the ones we toured in the Triangle. It is also the most affordable…. [We like that there is] no meal plan and [is] fee-for-service, [you pay] when you need them. … There are many activities offered by Twin Lakes as well as residents who create and offer opportunities to foster community. Its proximity to Elon University is a tremendous added benefit with many educational and cultural offerings.

The Administration and employees seem to genuinely care about the residents, which is evident in their interactions with us. Twin Lakes is a non-profit organization that offers many benefits to employees and their children as well as the surrounding community outside of TL.”

The Paganos are among many residents who have found Twin Lakes to be a place where they can pursue their passions, both old and new. They feel a sense of purpose here and appreciate being treated with dignity and respect.  With staff who esteem you with high regard, neighbors who become lifelong friends, and social, physical, and altruistic opportunities found either on campus or just a brief drive away, it is easy to see why Twin Lakes Community is a great place to call home.
